This variety is not a commercial breeding cultivar, but rather an autochthonous ecotype. The trees are characterized by vigorous growth and, in the absence of formative pruning, can reach a height of up to 20 meters. The variety's resistance is due to long-term adaptation to the climatic conditions of its regions of origin.

There is no precise standardized description, as the common name encompasses several similar local forms, including "Maiatico Nero". The fruits are used both for fresh consumption and for various types of preservation. Currently, the gene pool of this variety is being conserved in regional biodiversity banks.
