The P-TU-3 rootstock was obtained through selection from wild populations of Prunus avium. It is intended for use in nurseries as a base for grafting cultivated varieties of sweet and sour cherry.

This rootstock is distinguished by a developed root system and the ability to form roots from the root collar. The plants have smooth bark and adapt well to loamy and light soils with a clay subsoil. There are discrepancies in the literature regarding the description of the bark color of the original plant.
