The variety Spalding, sometimes referred to as Spaulding, is presumably a hybrid of the varieties Bing and Deacon. The fruits are characterized by a very large size and high flesh firmness.

The variety is self-incompatible and possesses the S2S4 genotype, which must be taken into account when selecting pollinators. The main disadvantages include very low yield and high susceptibility of the fruit to cracking.
