The name Sort Spansk was used in the Danish and German horticultural tradition as a collective term for various late-maturing sweet cherry varieties with dark fruit coloration. Due to this, confusion historically arose regarding the authenticity of the variety, and specialists often identify it with the Schneiders Sildige variety.

The plant belongs to the group of sweet cherries with firm flesh and matures in the 5th ripening period. The tree is characterized as vigorous, while its low yield is noted. In historical field trials, the variety showed low susceptibility to certain fungal diseases.
