The name Witzenhäuser Riesen is not an independent breeding variety, but a historical local synonym for the Werdersche Braune variety. The tree is characterized as vigorous, forming a high-domed or high-pyramidal crown with steeply upward-growing branches, often prone to forming a double trunk.

The fruits are large, flattened in shape, and acquire a dark brown-violet color upon full maturity. The flesh is firm, dark red, aromatic, and sweet. The variety is classified as a table variety, is self-incompatible and requires the presence of pollinators to ensure regular high yields, while having medium fruit resistance to cracking.
