Dubbelte Morelkers is not an independent breeding variety, but represents the Dutch designation for the group of Schattenmorelle type varieties. Historically, the name of this group is associated with the French Chateau de Moreilles.
Trees of this type are characterized by high yield and the ability to bear fruit at a young age; the variety is self-fertile. It belongs to late-ripening varieties and is characterized by high susceptibility to Monilinia.
The fruits are small, dark-colored, with sugar, acid, and anthocyanin content below the average level. The main direction of use is industrial processing for the production of juices, wines, liqueurs, and canned goods, as well as raw material for distillation.
