The Edabriz rootstock is used for sweet and sour cherries to establish high-density orchards. Its use provides a pronounced dwarfing effect, which simplifies tree maintenance and the harvesting process.
Trees on this rootstock are characterized by early fruit bearing and good productivity. Under heavy crop load, fruit size may decrease, which requires pruning. The rootstock has moderate anchorage, which is why trees often require support.
The plant is demanding of growing conditions and requires fertile soils with good drainage and regular irrigation. Edabriz is sensitive to drought, magnesium deficiency, chlorosis in alkaline soils, as well as infection with PDV virus, black cherry aphid, and root rot.
