The tree is very large, reaching 8 meters in height, with a spherical crown and reddish bark. When fully ripe, the fruits are juicy and markedly sweet, and have yellow flesh with red specks.
The plant belongs to the category of old fruit crops. Flowering begins early, so the tree is often exposed to late spring frosts, which causes unstable fruit bearing from year to year. The fruits are consumed fresh or used for making jams.
