The variety is ancient, having been cultivated as early as the 16th century. The tree is characterized by vigorous initial growth, which later becomes more moderate. Fruiting is regular, beginning in the third year after planting. The variety is very frost-hardy, but cultivation in warm regions is preferable.
Fruits are small, oblong in shape, and slanted at the ends. The skin is dark blue in color and covered with a waxy bloom. The flesh is greenish-yellow, juicy and tender, and separates well from the pit. The fruits are suitable for fresh consumption and processing.
