The Freya variety was obtained during breeding work at the University of Hohenheim. The parent forms are (Hanita x Tiroler Zuckerzwetschge) x Stanley 2.
The fruits have an average weight of about 34 grams and a size of 34–36 mm. The flesh is greenish-yellow in color, of medium density, and contains about 16° Brix of sugar content. The taste of the fruits is rated as sour. The stone separates well.
The variety possesses resistance to Plum Pox Virus. To achieve high taste qualities during a heavy crop, mandatory fruit thinning is required.
