The Sprite variety is an interspecific hybrid obtained by crossing Japanese plum (Prunus salicina) and cherry plum (Prunus cerasifera). The plant does not belong to the common plum species (Prunus domestica).
The fruits of the variety have a medium size and amber flesh; their taste resembles a cherry. Fruit coloring can occur before they reach full maturity. Harvesting usually takes place in August.
Trees of this variety are distinguished by high productivity. The variety is considered self-fertile, however, to ensure guaranteed cross-pollination and flavor diversity, mixed plantings with other varieties are often recommended.
