The plant is a small shrub or tree 3–4 meters in height, sometimes up to 8 meters, with a dense, occasionally thorny crown. The fruits are small, 2–3 cm in diameter and 4–7 g in weight, spherical in shape, with a color ranging from yellow-green to blue-black.
The variety is late-maturing; fruit ripening occurs from mid-September to October, often after the first frosts. Trees are self-fertile, characterized by high disease resistance and a tendency to produce root suckers.
Due to the high content of tannins, the fruits have a tart, sour taste resembling blackthorn, and therefore are almost never consumed fresh. They are primarily used to produce distillate with characteristic notes of almond and marzipan.
