The Calò variety is a representative of the Apulian germplasm pool. It is characterized as self-compatible, which makes it possible to grow the plant in solid plantations without the mandatory participation of other pollinator varieties.
Studies confirm satisfactory fruit set under natural self-pollination and cross-pollination. The variety belongs to the sweet almond group and is often mentioned in literature alongside other Apulian self-compatible varieties, such as Tuono, Genco and Filippo Ceo.
