The Suncling peach variety belongs to the 'clingstone' group of canning varieties, in which the pit does not separate easily from the yellow, firm flesh. The fruits are characterized by medium to large size and good texture. The variety possesses high winter hardiness of flower buds, yet is distinguished by high susceptibility to bacterial spot.
The variety was developed for industrial use but lost widespread popularity due to a decrease in demand for this type of canned fruit. Furthermore, in the mid-20th century, Suncling was extensively used in North America as a rootstock for growing peach seedlings.
