The variety is the result of crossing the Redhaven, J. H. Hale and Halehaven varieties. The fruit ripening period occurs approximately 7 days earlier than that of the Redhaven variety.
The fruits have melting flesh and high resistance to browning. Regarding the pit separation type, the variety is characterized as a clingstone or semi-freestone. The fruits are suitable for fresh consumption and culinary processing.
The variety belongs to the heirloom category and in a number of regions has been displaced by more modern varieties. There is a separate variety Late Sunhaven with different ripening times, which should not be confused with this variety.
