Queen Garnet
ActivePrunus salicina Lindl. · Japanese plum
The State of Queensland acting through The Department of Agriculture and Fisheries
10 August 2026
The tree is medium- or vigorous-growing, reaching a height of 4–5 meters, and has a spreading spherical crown. The variety is often classified as a complex interspecific hybrid involving Chinese plum, cherry plum, and other species.
The fruits are round or slightly oval with a pronounced suture. The skin is smooth, red-purple or dark purple in color with a waxy bloom. The flesh is juicy, aromatic, red or reddish in color, with a sweet, slightly tart taste.
The variety enters bearing in the 3–4th year. Ripening times occur in the period from late July to mid-August. The tree is relatively resistant to diseases and has good winter hardiness, but is sensitive to late spring frosts.
The variety is self-fertile, but fruits better in the presence of pollinators, such as the «Марипоса», «Сацума» or «Широ» varieties. The variety itself also acts as an effective pollinator for other diploid plums.
