The variety is an interspecific hybrid combining the characteristics of sour cherry and sweet cherry. The fruits possess juicy flesh, a milder taste compared to sour cherries, and retain a distinct cherry aroma, which makes them suitable for culinary processing.
The variety name indicates an early ripening period. The fruit quality characteristics of the variety are comparable to other Dukes, for example, the Reine Hortense variety. Moderate productivity is characteristic of hybrids in this group.
