The STO1 rootstock was obtained as a result of open pollination of sour cherry (Prunus cerasus) with the probable participation of sweet cherry (P. avium). It is intended for grafting sweet and sour cherry varieties, ensuring the restriction of vegetative growth and the formation of a compact crown in trees.

Plants grafted onto this rootstock are distinguished by high drought tolerance due to a developed root system, as well as minimal or zero formation of root suckers. The use of this rootstock contributes to obtaining a uniform yield and high fertility of the scion varieties.
