The name Mantecosa Bosc is a Spanish synonym for the Beurre Bosc variety, bred in France in the late 18th century. The variety is known under a number of other names, including Kaiser Alexander, Beurre d'Apremont, and Bosc.

The fruits have a classic elongated pear shape and a brownish surface with characteristic russeting. The flesh is dense and firm, but as it ripens, it acquires a juicy, soft, and buttery consistency with a sweet taste.

The variety belongs to the autumn group and is versatile in its use. Due to the dense structure of the flesh, the fruits retain their shape well during culinary processing, including baking, frying, and boiling, in addition to fresh consumption.
