The variety is a sport (bud mutation) of the well-known Baldwin variety. The plant forms vigorous and productive bushes, although their structure is often characterized as imperfect. The fruits are large, have a rich flavor, and are formed in clusters that are, on average, longer than those of many other varieties.
The berries ripen uniformly and are easy to harvest. The variety is susceptible to infestation by the blackcurrant leaf midge and viral diseases. There is a morphological similarity to the Laleham Beauty variety; both varieties behave as periclinal chimeras, which can lead to uneven fruit ripening times on a single bush.
