The blackcurrant variety Silgo was described by Bauer in 1973. The variety is independent and is not related to the Russian variety Suiga.

In agronomic studies, the variety is characterized as highly susceptible to infestation by big bud mite. There are also indications that the plants may suffer from the effects of low temperatures.
