The Silmu variety is often used as a subject for research into the biological and chemical properties of blackcurrant berries. In comparative analyses, the variety stands out for its high anthocyanin content, as well as its studied sugar composition, including glucose, fructose, and sucrose.

During studies of the variety, variations in soluble solids levels and titratable acidity were recorded, which depend on the age of the shoots. The rate of phenophase progression in the plant depending on shoot age was also studied, as well as the antioxidant and antimicrobial activity of berry juices and extracts.
