ActiveRibes rubrum L. · Redcurrant
RIETSEMA (NL)
10 August 2026
The variety belongs to old European forms, which are often associated with the group of "Dutch" varieties. In historical pomological literature, it stood out among other varieties of that time for its fruit quality and yield, and was also mentioned as a synonym or close relative of the "Red Dutch" group.
The fruits of the variety are described as shiny, translucent, red in color with a pleasant tart taste. The berries were twice as large as the common currant of that period, and the length of the clusters was from 2 to 3 inches, which corresponds to approximately 5–7.5 cm.
