The vigorous plant forms a spreading bush of irregular spherical shape. Shoots are green with red stripes before lignification; mature branches are ash-colored and covered with durable, ribbon-like bark. Leaves are large, predominantly five-lobed, gray-green in color, with a heavily rugose leaf surface.
Small berries with pronounced acidity and a large number of seeds are gathered in dense long clusters containing up to 40 fruits. The variety is characterized by high yield but exhibits sensitivity to fruit rot infection.
The fruits are suitable for fresh consumption, culinary processing, and canning. The variety is known by a number of synonyms, including Macherauchs Riesentraube and Heinemanns Rote Spätlese.
