ActiveRibes uva-crispa L. · Gooseberry
Rolf Bauer
10 August 2026
The variety is a medium-sized plant, characterized by a dense arrangement of thorns at the base of the branches with their almost complete absence at the tops of the shoots. Young leaves have a reddish hue upon unfolding, which eventually changes to green. Flowering of the shrub can occur relatively late.
The berries of the variety are small, covered with hairs, and have a green color with lighter yellowish veins. The taste qualities of the fruits are compared to kiwi. The variety is characterized by high susceptibility to American powdery mildew and leaf spot, which limits its modern use to collection purposes.
