The plant is an upright, dense deciduous shrub about 1.5 meters tall. In terms of growth habit, the bush resembles black currant, but has a more vertical shape and less chaotic branching. The leaves are heart-shaped, slightly lobed, serrated, and medium green in color.
The fruits are dark red or dark purple, the size of a black currant berry. The crop ripens in mid-to-late summer. The berries are juicy and have a complex taste, combining sweetness, tartness and acidity.
