The Jochina variety is a direct hybrid of Ribes uva-crispa and Ribes nigrum. The fruits of this variety are dark red in color and are suitable for making jams.

The plant flowers later but matures earlier than the common Josta variety. An important characteristic of the variety is its high susceptibility to powdery mildew, which distinguishes it from other commercial jostaberry hybrids.
