Jostaberry is an interspecific hybrid obtained by crossing blackcurrant and gooseberry. An adult shrub reaches a height of 1.5–2 meters and is characterized by the absence of thorns, which is an important morphological feature of the crop.
The plant possesses high winter hardiness and resistance to diseases such as anthracnose, powdery mildew, and big bud mite infestation. Fruit ripening begins in mid-June and can continue throughout the summer period.
The berries have a black color, dense smooth skin, and a weight of 3 to 5 grams. They have a sweet and sour taste and are suitable both for fresh consumption and for various types of processing, including the preparation of jams, jellies, juices, and wines.
