The variety is a complex hybrid of blackcurrant (Ribes nigrum), common gooseberry (Ribes uva-crispa), and spreading gooseberry (Ribes divaricatum). The plant forms a vigorous spreading shrub 1.5–2 meters high with a crown diameter of up to 2.5 meters. The shoots are practically thornless and possess moderate shoot formation.
Fruiting occurs from the end of June to the end of July. The berries are dark burgundy, almost black with a purple hue, have a mass of 3–5 g, and a sweet and sour taste with a muscat flavor. The fruits hold tightly to the pedicels and are not prone to shedding. The variety is characterized by high winter hardiness and resistance to diseases of currant and gooseberry, including powdery mildew and rust.
The variety is intended for fresh consumption and various types of processing, including the production of jams, preserves, and winemaking. The variety name has become a household name for a group of hybrids, so various breeding forms may be encountered under this name.
