The plant is a herbaceous subshrub with an above-ground part that dies back annually and creeping rhizomes. The Beata variety prefers moist, acidic, humus-rich soils, tolerates partial shade well, and possesses high winter hardiness.

Flowering occurs in May–June, fruiting from July to August. The berries are dark red or purple in color and weigh about 1.5 g. The variety is self-sterile, therefore the presence of other varieties for cross-pollination is necessary to obtain a yield.
