The variety is a hybrid, with the involvement of the Mespi variety suggested in its origin. Rubus arcticus is a self-incompatible plant; therefore, to obtain a yield, the Pima variety must be grown in pairs with other varieties for cross-pollination.

The berries of the variety possess a pronounced aroma and contain organic acids, sugars, and ascorbic acid. In terms of nectar secretion capacity, Pima can outperform some local clones; however, the variety is susceptible to downy mildew, which causes berry shriveling and leaf lesions.

The plant belongs to the species Rubus arcticus L. and is not a hybrid with other subspecies of Rubus arcticus. The variety serves as an object of scientific research in the fields of micropropagation and cryopreservation.
