The Trent variety was used in breeding work, including the study of inbreeding effects and the creation of other varieties, such as Festival. In a historical context, it was recommended for cultivation in the eastern regions of Canada.

A number of studies noted the variety's sensitivity to severe winter conditions and insufficient adaptation to certain climatic zones. Fruit productivity was rated as unremarkable, and the variety itself appeared in scientific studies on resistance to viral diseases and the pest Amphorophora rubi.
