ActiveRubus L. · Blackberry
Scottish Crop Research Institute, GB
10 August 2026
The variety is a complex hybrid involving the species Rubus allegheniensis, R. trivialis, R. argutus, R. ulmifolius, and R. procerus. The plant forms an erect bush. There is also a thornless mutant form known as Driscoll Thornless Sleeping Beauty.
The variety belongs to the early maturity group with a long fruiting period, which can last from mid-May to mid-August. The plant is adapted to climates with low chill accumulation requirements, allowing it to be grown in regions with warm climates.
The fruits are large in size and elliptical or oval in shape. Compared to the parent forms, the berries are characterized by increased firmness and less pronounced acidity, which makes the variety suitable for transportation and sale on the fresh produce market.
