The variety was obtained as a result of crossing G.4324(545) and Maris Piper. Tubers have an elongated shape, white or light yellow skin, and medium-sized eyes. Plants have a spreading habit and good leaf canopy development capacity.
The variety demonstrates high yield and dry matter content of more than 20%, and starch of more than 17%. Due to these characteristics, it is suitable for the processing industry. In trials, a low level of infection with potato leaf roll virus was noted.
Tubers are sensitive to light, which leads to their greening and the accumulation of glycoalkaloids; however, the rates of increase in glycoalkaloid levels are relatively low. In a number of regions, including Bangladesh, the variety is known under the local designation BARI ALU-4.
