The Apropos variety is a GM potato line in which amylose biosynthesis was suppressed through genetic modification. This allows for the production of starch with a high amylopectin content, making the product in demand for the food and industrial sectors.
Commercial cultivation of the variety was not carried out. Approval for its use was withdrawn due to the presence of a kanamycin resistance gene, which was used as a selection marker. The variety became known primarily in scientific publications dedicated to GMO regulation issues, while classical agronomic characteristics of the plant are not publicly available.
