Aztec Gold is a diploid variety obtained by crossing lines ARD 04-4433 and ARD 03-2128 using genetic material from wild Andean relatives. It is a mid-late variety with rapid initial and good final foliage development.

Tubers are oval in shape, with yellow skin and characteristic orange or orange-yellow flesh. The product belongs to cooking type B, contains about 21.4% dry matter, possesses a rich flavor, and has a long dormancy period.

The variety is resistant to late blight of foliage and tubers, as well as internal browning and mechanical damage during harvesting. The plant is sensitive to the effects of metribuzin, secondary growth, and growth cracking.
