The variety belonged to the category of potatoes for industrial use. During field trials in 2000–2002, the variety demonstrated a relatively long period until the first signs of late blight on leaves appeared and a slowed development of the disease compared to a number of other samples.
In starch production reports, the variety was considered in the context of starch yield. When compared with the Oleva variety, it was recorded that Canasta had a lower economic return on starch yield, despite a higher gross starch yield.
