The potato variety «Cycloon» belongs to the group of mid-late varieties. In terms of resistance to pathogens, the variety is characterized by high leaf sensitivity to infection by the fungus Alternaria alternata and is used in genetic studies of potato virus Y (PVY) to investigate the expression of resistance genes.
Previously, the variety was considered suitable for the production of french fries and chips. Currently, «Cycloon» appears more frequently in European research collections and breeding programs as an object for comparative genetic analysis and mapping.
