Hätäläinen is one of the local Finnish names for the old variety Early Rose, which was bred in the USA in the second half of the 19th century. In genetic collections, such as NordGen, the variety is often classified under its original name, Early Rose.
The tubers have light pink skin, white flesh, and are characterized by an uneven, bumpy shape with prominent eyes. In terms of culinary qualities, the variety is a table potato with a slightly mealy texture and early maturity. The variety does not have high resistance to modern potato diseases.
