Variety description

10 August 2026

The French variety Surya is an early table potato. The tubers have an oval shape, yellow skin and flesh, and shallow eyes. The plant is semi-upright. The variety is resistant to potato cyst nematode, but susceptible to late blight, scab, and a number of viruses. Culinary type A-B, does not boil down easily, has a low dry matter content and low keeping quality.

The Indian variety Kufri Surya is early-maturing, possesses heat tolerance and resistance to Epilachna beetle. Tubers are oblong with smooth white skin and pale yellow flesh. The variety is suitable for cultivation in various seasons, contains 20–21% dry matter and a low level of sugars, which makes it suitable for the production of french fries and chips.
