Tubers are oval in shape, sometimes slightly knobby, with shallow to medium-depth eyes. When sprouted in light, the sprouts are colored dark blue-violet. The plant forms dark blue flowers and long stolons, which can cause tubers to be located at a significant distance from the mother plant.
The variety is considered quite floury and starchy; during boiling, the flesh may lighten to a bluish shade. The variety is susceptible to Phytophthora infestans and is prone to berry formation. In the past, it was used as a fodder crop, and is currently grown as a gourmet potato.
