The variety is a local strain widespread in the western part of Sweden and Finland, and has many synonyms, including Svart Dalsland, Blåpotatis, and a number of Finnish names. It belongs to the category of moderately early varieties and is used as a traditional food crop.
The tubers have dark blue, almost black skin and white flesh, which darkens slightly during cooking. The variety is susceptible to late blight, potato virus Y, and scab, but shows resistance to tobacco rattle virus and mop-top virus.
