Liepsna is a diploid variety of red clover classified as early-ripening. In scientific research, the variety is often used as a standard for comparison with other populations and experimental lines when analyzing morphological traits.

The variety demonstrates low resistance to the pathogen of clover rot (Sclerotinia trifoliorum Erikss.) and is noted as susceptible in comparative tests. Biochemical studies have revealed peculiarities in the fatty acid profile of the pollen, including an increased ratio of certain lipid components.
