The variety is a derivative of Gentil Rosso wheat and was selected in Tuscany in the 1920s. It is a tall winter plant that possesses natural adaptability to local soil conditions and requires lower amounts of nitrogen fertilizers compared to intensive varieties.
The plant is susceptible to lodging and has moderate disease resistance characteristic of heirloom varieties. The grain contains a significant amount of phenolic compounds and flavonoids, and its flour is valued for high organoleptic properties and good digestibility.
In modern conditions, the variety is used primarily in organic farming, where the priority is the preservation of genetic diversity and the production of high-quality products.
