The spring soft wheat variety Lydia was created by the Cereal Institute, which is part of the Hellenic Agricultural Organization DEMETER. The crop is used in scientific practice as one of the commercial varieties for genetic research.
As part of the study of genetic diversity, this variety was evaluated for grain quality, resistance to lodging, yield stability, and resistance to three types of rust. Studies using Lydia also cover the analysis of seed storage protein composition and the search for genetic markers associated with resistance to biotic stresses or the presence of wheat-rye chromosome translocations.
