The Poltavka variety is a historical local landrace of soft wheat identified in 1915 in the region north of the Black Sea. This specimen is of great importance for breeding, as it is the ancestor of a number of widely distributed wheat varieties, including Saratovskaya 29.
In scientific literature, the variety is characterized as a historically valuable "strong" wheat. Detailed modern agronomic descriptions of plant height, maturity timing, or disease resistance for this historical material are absent.
