There are two varieties named Pondus: a modern winter wheat variety bred by Nordic Seed and a historical Swedish variety bred in the 1950s. The modern version is characterized as a high-yielding and stable variety adapted to the conditions of northern agriculture, including Scandinavian and Baltic countries.

During research, the variety demonstrated resistance to diseases, which allows it to be used in farming systems with limited pesticide application. The purpose of the variety corresponds to standards for bread-making, industrial, or feed use of wheat.
