The variety is the result of a cross between the variety Vilmorin 27 and the line PLM 1, which was obtained through selection from a local French variety, Mouton. During its period of active distribution, the variety was characterized as high-yielding.

The variety was classified as 'ble améliorant' (class I), which indicates its value to the baking industry. Currently, it is considered an heirloom line and genetic material of historical interest.
