The Svenno variety was bred in Sweden at the Svalöv breeding center. In the 1950s, it gained prominence and was grown in a number of European countries due to its high yield, and in the 1970s, it took part in international field trials.
Currently, the variety is considered historic and is most often mentioned in scientific publications on wheat genetics. It is used as a parent form in crosses, as well as in the study of flowering loci and grain quality characteristics. The specimen is stored in the NordGen database as a genetic resource.
