The Russian winter soft wheat variety «Зодиак» was obtained by crossing 1590/04 x Ростовчанка 5. It is a mid-early, medium-tall variety, 79–82 cm in height, with an erect or semi-erect bush. The spike is pyramidal, white, of medium length and density, and belongs to the erythrospermum botanical variety. It is characterized by high resistance to lodging, winter hardiness, and drought tolerance at the level of standards. The thousand kernel weight is 40–49 g, and yield reaches 79.2 c/ha. It is intended for the baking industry.
The British variety «Zodiac», created by Limagrain UK Ltd, was obtained by crossing Hammer x Parade. It belongs to the winter forage wheat type. The variety was distinguished by high yield, good grain specific weight, resistance to lodging, and resistance to major diseases, including yellow rust Puccinia striiformis.
